Kirakira Tachibana Shopping Street is one of the most popular shopping streets in Sumida City, Tokyo, Japan.
The street is full of unique shops that offer everything from clothes to home accessories. In this blog post, I’ll provide you with all the information you need to know about Kirakira Tachibana shopping street, including its location, opening hours, highlights, and more!
Location:
Kirakira Tachibana Shopping Street is in Kyojima, Sumida City, Tokyo. The local community calls it Shitamachi Ninjo Kirakira Tachibana Shotengai.
The local community usually runs this shopping street. So everything from vegetables to household goods is cheaper than in other areas of the Tokyo metropolis.
The street is only a 10-minute walk from Hikifune Station and a 15-minute walk from Mukojima Hyakkaen Gardens.
Things to do:
Tokyo has many small shopping districts and streets that attract local and international tourists. These places eventually became as famous sightseeing spots.
This Kirakira Tachibana Shopping Street is no different. However, it’s straight long, and narrow local shopping street has its uniqueness. People start visiting it from the morning to evening every day.
Kirakira means sparkling in Japanese, but Shitamachi Ninjo has a deep meaning with hospitality. People translated the meaning of Shitamachi Ninjo as the ‘warm heart of the Local Community.’
The market holds a morning market 4th Sunday of every month. But it changes in December and holds on 2nd Sunday.
You can do many fun things on this 470 meter-long shopping street. If you have been to the old biggest fish market Tsukiji, you probably find some similarities with this Kirakira Tachibana Shopping Street.
You can buy fresh vegetables, eat fried chicken, or other Japanese menu items.
In addition, you may find some new local foods here, which we usually see during the events.
Foods:
No worries about language. You can use your language or English. But, of course, local people usually speak in Japanese.
Anyway, language is not a big issue here.
Some of the delicious food items are ● Fried Chicken ● Yakitori ● Takoyaki ● Oden ● Korokke ● Sweets
Few famous stores:
The street has about 90 stores. However, about 75 are regularly open.
Besides, a few flower shops keep beautiful seasonal local flowers. So you can surprise your friends and family members by buying some fresh and lovely flowers from these shops.
I also saw some lovely kids-friendly saloons, which we usually can’t see.
Surroundings:
Some of the famous spots around the street are ● Mukojima Hyakkaen Gardens ● Tokyo Skytree ● Kyojima South Park ● Tamaru Inari Shrine
You can take Tokyo Skytree photos in front of the supermarket, located in the middle point of the street.
Finally, I must admit that it’s one of the famous shopping streets in Tokyo, which can’t be compared to any such street like Ueno Ameyoko Shopping Street or Harajuku Takeshita Street.
It’s a place run by the local community where you’ll see a welcoming attitude of the people. You could probably see numerous social media posts like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram about the market. But it’s worth visiting physically to enjoy the environment and taste delicious local foods.
Opening hours:
6:00-18:00

Note: Some shops may open according to their convenient time.
