The Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum is located in Ueno Park, Ueno, Taito City, Tokyo.

It is next to the main entrance of Ueno Zoo and is only five minutes walk from the Ueno Park exit of JR Ueno Station. 

The Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum is famous in Tokyo, one of the prefectural government-supported museums in Japan.

History:

It is the first public art museum in Japan, established in 1926. The museum sponsors approximately 280 exhibitions every year.

Besides, the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum holds Special Exhibitions in Japanese, English, and Chinese language. Furthermore, the museum has school education exhibitions to encourage students to be artists.

A famous Japanese modern architect Kunio Mayekawa designed the building’s current structure, completed in 1975.

Besides, it remains closed on the Ist & 3rd Mondays of the month. But the museum remains closed on Tuesday if Monday is a national holiday.

Besides the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, some famous museums are worth mentioning, such as the Tokyo National Museum, the Ueno Royal Museum, the National Museum of Nature and Science, the National Museum of Western Art, Kuroda Memorial Hall and the Shitamachi Museum.

Some shrines and markets such as Ueno Ameyoko Market, Shinobazu Pond Bentendo, Toshugu Shrine, and Ueno Zoo are closed from the museum.
