Sumida Aquarium( Sumida Suizokukan) is on the 5th & 6th floors of the Tokyo Solamachi Commercial Complex in Tokyo Solamachi Town, Sumida City, Tokyo. However, Tokyo Solamachi Town is also famous as Tokyo Skytree Town.
The aquarium is in the West Zone of Tokyo Skytree Town on the 5-6 floors with 7140m2 space, holding about 700 tons of water. It uses artificial seawater.
It’s close to Tokyo Metro Oshiage Station. In addition, people from Narita Airport and Haneda Airport can use Toei Asakusa Line to access Tokyo Skytree Solamachi Town.
History:
Sumida Aquarium was opened to the public at the same time as Tokyo Skytree in 2012.

What to see?
It’s one of the most famous aquariums in Tokyo. So, many things to see here, like Jellyfish, Goldfish, Garden Eels, Penguin Pool Coral Reefs, etc.

If you enter Tokyo Skytree Solamachi Town from Mizumachi, use the lift to the fourth floor. Then, go out and find Sumida Aquarium by Orix.
You can use the escalator or stairs to the fifth floor. Buy a ticket and go inside.
You can use a lift or a stair here. But the stair looks dark. So, watch your steps, and you’ll arrive at Natural Aquascape.
Natural Aquascape:
Natural Aquascapes are lovely. Freshwater aquatics live here created by famous photographer, author, and founder of Aqua Design, Amano Takashi.
You can see Amano Shrimps at the left tank. These cute freshwater shrimps were named after Amano Takashi.
Besides, you can see other freshwater fishes in this section and remember the designer, Amano, for his outstanding contribution to the world.
Big Petri Dish:
Visitors become amazed when they arrive at Jellyfish Tank. It’s a Big Petri Dish Tank that displays the drifting and fluffy lifestyle of ‘Jellyfish.’ which is like a dreamlike sight of the jellyfish world.
The aquarium installed Big Petri Dish Tank in 2020. No wonder installation of this tank brought a new highlight of the aquarium’s Jellyfish aquatic life.
At the same time, visitors can stand above the illuminated Petri Dish Tank and watch how lovely jellyfish sway gently in the water. Most likely, Jellyfish swaying is like floating stars in the sky gently. It’s really a dreamy feeling.

Water’s Blessing Ogasawara Tank (Ogasawara Sea Tank) is one of the aquarium’s main attractions, representing the habitats of the Ogasawara Islands, Izu Islands, and Tokyo Bay.

Spotted Eels:
There are four transparent garden tanks nearby Water’s Blessing Ogasawara Tank as Reef flat, Coral cluster, Sand bottom in coral reef, and Coral cay.
