History:

The Ebisu Beer Museum was opened in 2010 to celebrate 120 years of Ebisu Beer.

Sapporo Company owns Ebisu Beer. But the beer was originated in Tokyo.

But the Ebisu Beer Museum is a part of the Yebisu Garden Place. The Garden Place was built on the former grounds of the Yebisu Beer Brewery, one of the famous tourist spots in the Tokyo Metropolis.

The company imported ingredients from Germany, such as beer mash vats, vapor devices, and icemakers. In 1890, the Yebisu Beer Brewery started producing beers and suddenly became famous and top-selling beer.

At the same time, comparing to other Japanese beers such as Kirin and Asahi, Yebisu Beer is better in quality, made with unique methods, and has better ingredients. Therefore, most of the Yebisu beers are called Premium Beer.

The entrance of the Ebisu Beer Museum is decorated with two huge Yebisu Beer cans. After passing the gate, the information desk is on the left side, a giant golden Premium Yebisu Beer can with Yebisu god on the top of it, and the Yebisu Beer god painting image is a few steps straight down in the middle of the stairs.

At the same time, two other sides of the Yebisu Beer god are clean stairs for going down to the Yebisu Beer Museum Hall and beer tasting restaurants.

The beer god image is with the colorful painting that seems to be kept holy, and it is requested not to step on it.

Beer tasting Salon:

After passing, the colorful painting Yebisu god image, some of the hall staff wait to provide information. The left side is a beer tasting Salon and souvenirs store.

And the straight middle is the beer Brewing Kettle. Left of the Kettle is a beautiful reserved space for beer tour members for beer tasting and on the left of the reserved space is Beer Museum Hall.

Per cup of beer costs ¥400, and two types of beers are recommended. Visitors can stay at the tasting Salon for 30 minutes to taste beer.

But a variety of types of Yebisu Beer are available with Yebisu Coins. Visitors purchase coins from vending machines on the spot.

Ebisu Beer Museum is open free for the public.

The Beer Museum Hall is located at the left during entering from outside. All the history and historical photographs are hanging on the wall as an exhibition.

Visitors can view how old Ebisu Station was in the past.

In addition, visitors can evaluate how it was developed and how much the area developed in the twenty-first century comparing 120 years ago.

120 years ago, during the first factory of the Yebisu Beer, the area was like a simple village with a few houses.

It is not only a history of Ebisu Station and Yebisu Beer but also a remarkable history of Tokyo.

Museum Tour:

Visitors can book the Museum Tour at the front desk during their visit or book online. However, it is usually in Japanese. Therefore, it is better to call directly or book at the desk.

Museum Tour is one of the best attractions in the museum. The tour takes 40 minutes, and it costs ¥500 per person, but 2 cups of beer are included.

Tour starts at 11:00 and closes at 17:00 every day. The museum arranges tours 13 times on weekdays and about 20 times on weekends.

Moreover, visitors who took a tour but still want to taste other beers at the Salon are free to taste by buying Yebisu Coins from vending machines.

The surrounding of the Ebisu Beer Museum is splendid.

On the main side of the Yebisu Garden Place, there are many restaurants on the 38 and 39 floors, from where visitors can see the lovely view of the Shibuya, Meguro area.

The best restaurant on the 39 floors is VIRA PIZZA, an Italian restaurant.

At the same time, people can view far while eating delicious pizza. Meguro Hinomaru Driving School looks very near to the restaurant.

Besides, tourists can participate during public events like open-air cinema nights and farmers’ markets.

A few urban oases include the five-star Westin Hotel, a Mitsukoshi department store, the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, and the Michelin 3-star Chateau Restaurant Joel Robuchon.
