The Edo-Tokyo Museum, one of Tokyo’s most important cultural institutions, remains closed as renovation work continues. The museum was originally opened in 1993 and has served visitors for nearly 30 years, showcasing the history and development of Tokyo from the Edo period to modern times.
To preserve the building and improve its facilities, a large-scale renovation project began, and the museum has been closed since April 1, 2022. The work includes structural upgrades, improved exhibition spaces, and modern visitor facilities to enhance the overall experience.
According to the latest schedule, the renovation is expected to continue until the end of 2025. The museum is currently planned to reopen on March 31, 2026.
Until then, visitors interested in Tokyo’s history may consider exploring other museums and cultural sites across the city. The reopening of the Edo-Tokyo Museum is expected to bring back one of Tokyo’s key historical attractions, in an improved, updated form.
